Ireland Approves $351 Billion Tokenized Aviva Fund on XRP
Ireland has given the green light to a $351 billion tokenized Aviva fund on XRP, marking a significant milestone in the adoption of blockchain technology by traditional financial institutions. The tokenized share class of Aviva Investors' USD Liquidity Fund is now live on the XRP Ledger, with BNY Mellon custodianship of the underlying assets and Komainu handling regulated digital-asset custody.
The move is notable because it sets a precedent for other European asset managers, providing a concrete example of how tokenization can be implemented on public blockchain rails. While regulators have been cautious in approving such initiatives, Ireland's Central Bank has given its nod to this specific structure.
The Aviva fund uses the XRP Ledger to handle transfers and record-keeping, with daily liquidity remaining front and center. The on-ledger units are designed to mirror the traditional share class in investment objective and investor protections. Ripple supplies the XRPL rails for this infrastructure deployment.
This development may set the pace for where real-world asset tokenization scales next. Jurisdictions willing to approve similar initiatives will likely be closely watched by other financial institutions looking to adopt blockchain technology.
