Ireland Introduces New Investment Accounts Excluding Cryptocurrencies
A new investment account system is being developed in Ireland, which will exclude cryptocurrencies and derivatives from its scope. The Irish Finance Ministry unveiled a roadmap for designing this system on August 31st, with plans to launch it by mid-2027.
The new accounts will have a threshold below which investments are not subject to taxation. Above this threshold, a flat tax rate will be applied annually to the average account value (including contributions) during the taxable period.
The specific tax rates and non-taxable thresholds, as well as the annual contribution limit, will be announced in the Budget 2027 on October 6th, 2026. The deemed disposal rule, which applies to certain investment products, will not apply to these new accounts.
