Ireland Unveils National Strategy to Combat Crypto Money Laundering
The Irish Department of Finance has published its first national strategy to combat money laundering and terrorist financing in the crypto market.
The AML (Anti-Money Laundering) strategy introduces enhanced checks for transfers from private crypto wallets, increased due diligence for dealings with foreign crypto companies, and industry standards for accepting cryptocurrencies as a source of funds for gambling.
The legislation to implement MiCA norms related to AML/CFT is described as 'well advanced', with the industry standards expected to be introduced in the second half of 2027.
