IREN's $2.4 Billion Bet on AI Infrastructure
IREN's pivot from Bitcoin mining to AI infrastructure is being put to the test as the company posts a year-end scorecard that looks like a disaster, but has a more complicated story beneath the surface.
The company reported a net loss of $702.6 million for the fiscal year, dragged down by a non-cash impairment charge of $638.8 million tied to retired Bitcoin mining hardware.
However, revenue growth in AI Cloud Services jumped roughly 686 percent year over year, and the direction of travel is unmistakable: Bitcoin mining still accounts for 81.8 percent of total revenue, but that's changing fast.
A $2.4 billion debt financing with Blue Owl Capital will help IREN build out its global data center pipeline, but the company's ambition comes with significant execution risk.
