IREN's $2.4 Billion Debt Package Tests Its AI Transformation

IREN's massive $2.4 billion debt package from Blue Owl Capital is putting its AI transformation to the test.

The company, which spent years as a pure-play Bitcoin miner, logged a fourth-quarter net loss of $684 million due in large part to a non-cash writedown tied to the retirement of legacy mining rigs. However, this is not an operational collapse; it's the cost of clearing the decks for its new identity.

The AI cloud segment took a decisive step forward in the fiscal fourth quarter, with revenue of $70.5 million eclipsing Bitcoin mining revenue of $66.7 million for the first time in company history. The segment's quarterly growth rate of 110 percent has pushed AI cloud to 51.4 percent of total revenue.

The market is not in a forgiving mood, however, with shares tumbling 12 percent on Friday and extending the weekly decline to 14 percent.
