IREN's Bitcoin Mining Exit Leaves $684M Loss Behind
IREN's financials have taken a significant hit after shifting focus from Bitcoin mining to AI cloud services. The company reported a $684 million loss for the last quarter, a stark contrast to its $176.9 million profit in the same period last year.
The main contributor to this loss was the decommissioning of Bitcoin mining hardware as IREN transitions towards more lucrative AI-focused ventures. Despite this setback, revenue still managed to secure $2.8 billion in funding and signed a new multi-year contract with a frontier AI lab.
Notably, IREN's computing power for 2026 is almost fully booked, and demand for their AI services is expected to surge in 2027 as well. While the revenue fell by 27% to $137.2 million, this downturn may be a temporary blip on the radar.
