Island Resident Loses Six Hundred Thousand Dollars in Cryptocurrency Scam
A resident of an island in British Columbia reported losing $600,000 to a cryptocurrency scam after seeing an online advertisement that claimed to be endorsed by a politician. The scam was one of many complaints received by Oceanside RCMP between June 22 and 28.
The victim, whose name is not provided, fell for the scheme on June 23, allegedly recommended by a politician. This incident is just one of several reported cases of scams in the area during this time period. Other incidents included stolen vehicles, vandalized property, and thefts from construction sites.
According to Oceanside RCMP, they received a total of 323 complaints between June 22 and 28. The previous week, they had received 342 complaints. Some other notable incidents include the theft of prawn traps and fishing line in Bowser, as well as vandalism of Parksville city irrigation sprinklers.
