Israel Clears Way for International Force in Gaza Amid Geopolitical Risks
Israel's security cabinet has approved a proposal to allow an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to enter parts of Gaza not under Israeli military control, marking a significant step towards implementing a US-backed peace plan. The approval comes after months of delays in securing commitments from other countries for the deployment of up to 20,000 troops and police personnel.
The ISF's mandate covers stabilization, training local Palestinian police, and supporting demilitarization in areas where Israel doesn't maintain direct control. It operates under the guidance of a 'Board of Peace' overseen by US President Donald Trump.
The troop contribution delays have created a transition period that is anything but tidy, raising concerns about the credibility of the ISF's deployment. If the force stabilizes Gaza and reduces the risk of broader regional conflict, it could remove a tail risk that has been a factor in macro models since late 2023.
Conversely, if the deployment stalls or the security situation deteriorates during the transition period, crypto markets may experience a brief risk-off move, followed by recovery as traders buy the dip.
