Itaú, Latin America's largest private sector bank, has joined forces with digital asset infrastructure provider OpenAssets to test tokenization of fixed-income securities and investment funds in Brazil.

The initiative is led by the Brazilian Financial and Capital Markets Association (ANBIMA), which is exploring the use of distributed ledger technology (DLT) for issuing, trading, and settling capital markets instruments.

As part of the pilot, Itaú will contribute its expertise in capital markets while OpenAssets provides its tokenization infrastructure to develop technical proofs of concept and assess operational, compliance, and technology requirements.

The companies are testing how tokenized assets could operate within institutional frameworks, with debentures and investment funds among the use cases being explored.
