Itaú Unibanco Joins Blockchain Tokenization Pilot in Brazil

Share

Itaú Unibanco, Brazil's largest private banking institution, has partnered with OpenAssets to test tokenized bonds and investment products on blockchain technology. The initiative is part of a larger program led by ANBIMA, which selected 20 use cases from over 50 financial entities for experimental testing.

The pilot program aims to evaluate the issuance, trading, and settlement of tokenized assets using distributed ledger technology. Itaú Unibanco will bring its expertise in capital markets, while OpenAssets will provide the technological backbone for tokenization.

ANBIMA had previously approved 20 use cases for experimental testing in April, with corporate bonds and managed investment products among the key scenarios under evaluation. The program's success could pave the way for the widespread adoption of tokenized assets in Brazil, which has already emerged as a leader in this field.
