Jackson Hole Comments Spark Hawkish Tone, Weighing on Crypto Markets
Crypto markets have been experiencing fading momentum in recent days, and this trend has become more apparent following comments from Kevin Warsh at Jackson Hole. During his speech, Warsh emphasized the persistence of inflationary pressures in the United States and suggested a less accommodative monetary policy environment in the months ahead.
As a result, market expectations for upcoming Federal Reserve decisions have shifted, with investors now assigning a 57% probability that interest rates will rise to around 4.00%. This shift has also led to higher U.S. 10-year Treasury yields, which have returned toward the 4.7% area.
The current environment is generally less supportive for cryptocurrencies, as higher interest rates tend to reduce their relative appeal and redirect capital toward investments offering more predictable returns.
Market activity metrics also suggest that part of the market's open positions have begun to unwind, with Bitcoin's Open Interest falling back toward the $24.8 billion area.
