Jane Street Drops $1B Bitcoin Bombshell Amid Record Trading Revenue
Quantitative trading firm Jane Street has disclosed its significant Bitcoin position of nearly $1 billion. The company holds 15,394 BTC equivalent in spot Bitcoin ETFs, with the majority invested in BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust.
The filing comes after Jane Street posted a roughly $15 billion loss in July due to bad bets in AI-focused hedge funds and Asian equity markets. However, despite this loss, the firm has generated over $40 billion in net trading revenue year-to-date, already surpassing its 2025 record of $39.6 billion.
The growing institutional demand for Bitcoin exposure is evident through regulated ETFs like BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust and Grayscale's Bitcoin Trust. These funds have attracted significant investments from pension funds and U.S. states, along with traditional investors in tech stocks and other equities.
