Japan Pension Fund Allocates 1% to Crypto in 2026
A Japanese pension fund serving over 1,200 firms plans to allocate 1% of its assets to cryptocurrency in fiscal 2026. The Nationwide Business Corporate Pension Fund, based in Okayama, currently holds around 21.3 billion yen ($130 million) in total assets.
The new allocation aims to diversify the fund's holdings, which are currently split between 80% yen, 15% US dollars, and 5% other currencies.
This move suggests a shift among Japanese institutional investors towards treating crypto as an alternative asset class. The fund will invest through a passive fund managed by a major hedge fund that holds multiple crypto assets.
