Japan's Big Brokerages Rush into Crypto Investment Trusts
Japan's largest brokerage firms are preparing to launch crypto investment trusts in anticipation of regulatory reforms by 2028. According to Nikkei Asia, at least eight major financial institutions are planning or developing such products.
SBI Securities is set to distribute products built by SBI Global Asset Management, which plans a lineup including exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and investment trusts tied to liquid assets like Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). The company aims to manage product development and retail distribution within the group.
Rakuten Securities is also taking an in-house approach through Rakuten Investment Management, designing products that can be traded directly through its smartphone app. Other major brokerages, including Nomura Securities and Daiwa Securities, have announced plans to develop investment trusts within their respective groups.
