Kansai Electric Power's subsidiary MOACT has taken a significant step into the world of cryptocurrency by allowing users to convert loyalty points earned from paying electricity bills into JPYC, Japan's first regulated yen stablecoin. This integration was launched on July 30, 2026, via the HashPort Wallet on the Polygon blockchain.

The ability for users to seamlessly flow from real-world utility payments to decentralized finance highlights Japan's progressive stablecoin regulation. This move is also encouraging traditional companies like MOACT to adopt crypto infrastructure.

Polygon, which dominates JPYC transactions with over $265 million in transfers handled on its network, may see a boost in adoption due to this partnership. However, it also concentrates risk within the HashPort Wallet ecosystem.
