Japan's Spot Bitcoin ETFs Poised to Reach $18B in Two Years
According to xWin Finance, Japan's spot Bitcoin ETFs could reach $18.4 billion in two years if they are approved. The firm estimates that a significant portion of this demand will come from existing crypto investors, who make up about 4% of the Japanese population. New retail investors via securities accounts and institutional players will also contribute to the demand, following the trend seen after the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs went live in early 2024.
For comparison, the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs have already attracted a cumulative flow of about $56 billion as of early 2026, two years after their debut. If Japan's products hit the projected $18.4 billion flow by the second year, that would mean a third of U.S. Spot Bitcoin ETF demand.
The proposed ETFs could haul around 400,000 BTC in 2.5 years if the trend holds, and this is not too far-fetched given Japan's growing Bitcoin ecosystem and its watchful regulator, the Financial Services Agency, which is advancing for crypto ETFs to be available as soon as 2028.
