Jobs Report Shocker Sends Bitcoin Price Plummeting
Bitcoin's price plummeted by around 3% after a stronger-than-expected jobs report was released, casting doubt on the Federal Reserve's decision to keep interest rates steady. The August nonfarm payrolls surged by 162,000, more than triple the estimated 56,000 economists had forecast.
The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.1%, while July's previously reported job loss of 23,000 was revised upward to a gain of 21,000. This unexpected strength in the labor market reversed expectations for a September interest rate hike, pushing its odds back up.
However, not everyone is convinced by the report's significance. Peter Schiff warned that the initial payroll figure may be subject to revision downward, arguing that investors betting on a rate hold based on this number are positioning themselves on faulty data.
