JP Morgan Pledges Crypto as Collateral in Major Shift
JPMorgan Chase has taken a significant step into cryptocurrency acceptance by allowing institutional clients to pledge Bitcoin and Ethereum as collateral for U.S. dollar loans via its Kinexys platform.
The program, launched in March 2026, allows custodians like Fidelity and Coinbase to hold the assets, marking a major shift from CEO Jamie Dimon's past skepticism towards cryptocurrency.
Dimon has previously expressed concerns about crypto, treating it as traditional assets with haircuts of 30-50% reflecting volatility.
The move paves the way for broader adoption by other major banks and introduces new liquidity and risk dynamics in crypto markets.
