JPMorgan Eyes Stablecoin Launch as Blockchain Strategy Evolves
JPMorgan Chase is considering launching its own stablecoin, which would be a significant departure from its existing blockchain-based deposit token strategy.
The bank's CEO, Jamie Dimon, hinted at this possibility during the July 15, 2025 earnings call, stating that JPMorgan would engage with both its existing deposit coin and stablecoins to stay competitive against fintech challengers.
JPMorgan has been careful to distinguish its blockchain product from stablecoins, which typically operate under a different regulatory framework. However, the bank's involvement in a consortium developing a shared tokenized deposit network through The Clearing House may change this dynamic.
The bank already has experience with blockchain-based products, including its JPM Coin, trading under the ticker JPMD, which went live for institutional clients on Coinbase's Base blockchain in November 2025 and has since expanded to the Canton Network. Average daily volume exceeds $7 billion.
