JPYC Sees Regulator Dialogue as Key to Yen Stablecoin Success
Japan's first yen-denominated stablecoin issuer, JPYC, believes that sustained communication with regulators is key to integrating yen stablecoins into Japan's formal financial system. The company has over four years of operating experience and anti-money laundering (AML) and countering the financing of terrorism (CFT) systems in place.
JPYC's head of business development and marketing, Shota Saito, said that JPYC held three rounds of formal talks with Japan's Financial Services Agency (FSA) during its approval process and submitted over 200 documents. Since the launch, it has continued to communicate regularly with the agency on issues such as reserve assets.
Saito pointed out limits in Japan's current framework, including issuance and redemption caps, as well as differences in transfer scope depending on issuance structure. He noted that these restrictions can curb real-world use cases.
JPYC aims to secure a 60% to 70% share of yen stablecoin issuance by 2030, with global stablecoin issuance projected to reach up to $4 trillion by the same year.
