Justice Seeks $61 Million in Cryptocurrency Tied to Iranian Terror Funding

The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a civil forfeiture claim against $61 million in cryptocurrency, alleging that it was acquired by the Iranian military through black market oil sales.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a U.S.-designated terrorist organization, is accused of using illicit oil revenue to fund its military and foster terrorism in the Middle East and worldwide.

The Justice Department claims that two Chinese companies laundered the illicit oil-sales revenue through trading accounts at a cryptocurrency exchange in the United Arab Emirates.
