Justin Sun's Token Lawsuit Takes a Key Turn in Federal Court

Share

Justin Sun's lawsuit against World Liberty Financial has cleared a major hurdle in federal court. The judge rejected World Liberty's attempt to move all of Sun's claims into private arbitration, allowing his individual claims to proceed publicly.

The dispute stems from Sun's reported $45 million investment in WLFI, involving 4 billion tokens. Sun is seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in damages, alleging that World Liberty Financial secretly retained contractual powers to freeze, transfer and burn holders' tokens.

Sun has framed the lawsuit as a broader issue about control and ownership in blockchain markets. He argues that if an issuer can arbitrarily seize or freeze tokens without disclosure, governance, or a formal process, then digital ownership looks different from permissionless ownership.

The case could establish a legal precedent around what asset ownership means in blockchain markets. Sun's position is straightforward: holding an asset does not necessarily mean having control over it.
