Kalshi Commodities Surpass $400M Monthly as Perpetual Futures Expansion Looms
Kalshi's commodities prediction markets have reached $400 million in monthly trading volume seven months after launch, surpassing the company's cryptocurrency markets at the same stage.
This milestone is a significant achievement for Kalshi, with its commodity contracts linked to oil, natural gas, and metals attracting retail traders looking to express views on traditional asset prices through event-based markets.
Kalshi co-founder Tarek Mansour attributed part of this growth to improved liquidity across the platform, which has enabled the company to seed new product categories more quickly and launch new markets faster than before.
This accelerated growth demonstrates Kalshi's ability to expand into new areas beyond event contracts, with commodities trading outperforming cryptocurrency markets by a substantial margin at this stage.
Kalshi is now looking beyond prediction contracts, with the company moving toward perpetual futures across several asset classes, including equity indexes, metals, and West Texas Intermediate crude oil. This expansion could bring Kalshi into closer competition with derivatives exchanges, offshore crypto platforms, and brokers offering leveraged products such as CFDs.
