Kalshi Seeks CFTC Approval for First Regulated US Oil Perpetual
Kalshi is preparing to file for a CFTC approval of an expiry-free WTI crude contract, which would be the first regulated US oil perpetual if approved.
The proposed contract would allow traders to maintain exposure to West Texas Intermediate crude oil without having to roll over their positions, as is currently required with standard futures contracts.
Kalshi already operates as a CFTC-designated contract market and has experience with perpetual futures, having received approval for its Bitcoin perpetual in May. However, the company will need to demonstrate that its WTI perpetual can stay credibly linked to the physical crude market during routine trading and periods of stress.
The filing is expected next week, but details on the contract's benchmark, funding and trading rules are still unclear.
