Kalshi Seeks CFTC Approval for WTI Perpetual Futures Contract
Kalshi is planning to seek approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for a perpetual futures contract linked to West Texas Intermediate crude oil. The proposed contract would trade continuously from Monday through Friday, with no fixed expiration date.
This would be the first oil perpetual contract available on a regulated U.S. exchange and would expand Kalshi's use of perpetual futures beyond cryptocurrency, which they already offer in the form of a CFTC-approved Bitcoin perpetual contract.
The proposed WTI perpetual contract would have no traditional expiration date, unlike existing WTI futures contracts that expire during a specified month. This could allow traders to hold positions for an indefinite period, provided they maintain sufficient collateral and meet other contract requirements.
