Kalshi Sees Approval and Growth Amid Regulatory Scrutiny
Kalshi, a platform that offers betting markets for various events, has been making waves in the crypto space. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) recently granted Kalshi approval to list gold and silver perpetual futures contracts starting September 10, 2026. This move is seen as significant, given the growing interest in decentralized finance (DeFi) and the increasing demand for cryptocurrency derivatives.
In related news, DoubleZero Foundation announced that it would be integrating Kalshi's election and political markets into its DoubleZero Edge service. Andy Ross, Institutional Director at DoubleZero, commented on this development. However, Kalshi has faced regulatory scrutiny in the past, including a recent court ruling that denied its emergency motion to stop Utah from enforcing gambling laws.
The platform has seen significant growth despite these challenges, with US web traffic spiking by 1,520% in July to reach 15.4 million visitors. Kalshi is also preparing to file a perpetual futures contract tied to West Texas Intermediate crude oil with the CFTC as early as next week.
In Michigan, Kalshi faces a different challenge, as Attorney General Dana Nessel has warned that the platform must stop taking sports wagers from Michigan residents or face daily fines of $500,000. This development highlights the complexities and challenges faced by cryptocurrency platforms operating in the US market.
