Kaspa Toccata Hard Fork Activates, Bringing Programmability to UTXO Model

Kaspa's Toccata hard fork activated on June 30, 2026, with a DAA score of 474,165,565. This upgrade built upon the network's earlier Crescendo hard fork from May 2025, which increased block production to 10 blocks per second.

Toccata added native Layer-1 covenants and zero-knowledge proof verification to Kaspa's existing UTXO model, moving it towards a programmable base layer. This is different from the virtual-machine approach used by Ethereum and Solana.

The new features include programmable rules attached to transactions (native Layer-1 covenants), an opcode for zero-knowledge proof verification (OpZkPrecompile), and native KRC-20 token support, built into the base layer.
