Kazakhstan Offers Tax Breaks and Legal Certainty to Attract Crypto Owners

Kazakhstan is seeking to capitalize on its potential as a hub for cryptocurrency mining by offering tax breaks and legal certainty.

The country's government signed a decree aimed at encouraging citizens to declare their crypto holdings, move them onto regulated domestic platforms, and integrate digital assets into the economy.

Under the plan, private investors will be exempt from paying taxes on personal income from digital asset transactions for three years, provided the assets were not connected to fraud or money laundering.

The measure is seen as a response to China's ban on Bitcoin mining in 2021, which led to a surge of miners moving to Kazakhstan. However, the rapid influx of miners put a strain on the country's power grid, resulting in outages and blackouts.
