Kazakhstan Targets National Crypto Reserve with Strategic Mining Rules
Kazakhstan is set to top up its national Bitcoin reserve by withholding a portion of coins minted under new 'strategic mining' rules. The government intends to replenish the reserve with up to 10% of all coins produced in data processing facilities that participate in the program.
The new framework, which will come into effect on August 1, 2026, offers participating miners preferential access to electric power in exchange for a share of their coins. The rules require mining entities to submit formal applications and meet strict requirements, including owning a data processing center with a minimum capacity of 150 MW.
The Kazakh government has been actively promoting the development of the cryptocurrency industry within its wider strategy to turn the country into a Eurasian crypto hub. This move is seen as another step in that direction, following the issuance of the first license for crypto exchange services under the updated law 'On Digital Assets.'
