Keel Infrastructure Abandons US Mining Operations to Focus on AI and HPC
Keel Infrastructure has decided to repurpose its US Bitcoin mining sites for AI and high-performance computing workloads. According to the company's August 2026 Form 10-Q filing, Keel decommissioned all of its US mining operations as it shifts towards more lucrative opportunities in the AI sector.
The move is not a complete exit from crypto for Keel, which still operates mining sites in Canada and holds $121 million in Bitcoin reserves. However, this development marks a significant pivot in the company's strategy, as power assets become increasingly valuable beyond Bitcoin mining.
Keel's US mining exit suggests that certain regions may no longer justify continued operation due to pressure from factors such as power costs, competition, facility upgrades, hardware efficiency, and post-halving economics. The company's $65 million net loss in the period also adds weight to this decision.
The shift towards AI infrastructure highlights a broader trend in the mining industry, where companies are recognizing the value of their assets beyond Bitcoin mining. This flexibility could reshape valuations as investors begin to view miners less like pure Bitcoin proxies and more like power-and-compute infrastructure businesses.
