Kenya Anchors Millions of Academic Records on Avalanche Blockchain
Kenya is overhauling its academic verification process by anchoring millions of records on Avalanche's C-Chain. The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has anchored over 15 million academic records, with projections suggesting the final count will be between 30 and 35 million.
The dataset includes exam results dating back to 1989, covering decades of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results. KNEC is developing a secure e-portal, built in collaboration with Ava Labs, Avalanche's core development company, as the underlying technology provider.
The system aims to make every KCSE certificate instantly verifiable by anyone with access to the portal, eliminating the need for phone calls and paperwork to confirm authenticity. KNEC is targeting nearly 1 million candidates sitting the KCSE in 2025 as the first cohort to receive digital credentials through this new system.
Retroactively anchoring a generation of academic history will be particularly beneficial for older graduates who may need to verify their credentials for international employment, further education abroad, or professional licensing.
