Kenya Cuts Crypto Capital Requirements Amid Industry Pressure
The Kenyan government has relaxed regulations for cryptocurrency firms by reducing the minimum capital requirement from Sh500 million to Sh300 million.
This move comes after warnings that steep charges would deter investments in the fast-rising segment. The Virtual Assets Association of Kenya (VAAK) had cautioned that high costs would repel credible global players.
The Treasury has also set lower capital requirements for other types of virtual asset providers, including stablecoin issuers and tokenisation businesses.
