Kenya Migrates Education Records to Avalanche Blockchain

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) is revolutionizing certificate verification in Kenya by storing academic records on the Avalanche blockchain. The move aims to reduce verification time from up to six months to mere seconds. Over 15 million records are now stored on the Avalanche C-Chain, with plans to grow to about 35 million.

The old paper system was plagued by issues of fake certificates and slow verification times. Each record on the blockchain is a secure, unchangeable entry that can be easily verified online. KNEC CEO Dr David Njengere noted that students can now securely access and verify their KCSE certificates online.

The project uses the LegitDoc platform developed by a local Kenyan technology company. This system has already been used in India's Dantewada district to put over 700,000 land records on-chain, reducing verification time from weeks to under a day.
