Korbit to Cover Harmony Token Shortfall After Network Security Incident
Korbit, a South Korean cryptocurrency exchange, has identified a discrepancy in its Harmony (ONE) token holdings following a security incident that affected the Harmony network. According to a report from News1, Korbit holds approximately 4.49 million ONE tokens, while customer deposits total about 4.71 million ONE, leaving a shortfall of roughly 210,000 tokens.
The gap, valued at around 214,200 South Korean won (approximately $160 USD), is relatively small in monetary terms but significant in terms of operational integrity. Korbit has stated it plans to cover the shortfall using its own funds, ensuring that customer balances remain fully backed.
The Harmony network experienced a security incident earlier, which likely contributed to the discrepancy. While the exact cause of the shortfall has not been publicly detailed, such mismatches can arise from network errors, internal accounting issues, or incomplete reconciliation processes.
