South Korea's government is taking steps to formalize its handling of seized cryptocurrencies. According to Chosun Biz, virtual assets acquired through donations or criminal forfeitures will be classified as state property and auctioned off immediately after acquisition.

The move aims to provide a structured system for managing and disposing of these assets efficiently and transparently. The central government currently holds approximately 78 billion won ($56.3 million) in virtual assets, acquired through seizures and donations.

Authorities are reviewing the legal basis for entrusting seized assets to private cryptocurrency exchanges, as well as recovering funds held on overseas exchanges and in electronic wallets. The plan also includes considering split auctions to avoid disrupting the market if a full sale is conducted.
