Korea Unveils Phased Roadmap for Stablecoin-Based Tokenization
South Korea's Financial Services Commission has outlined plans to introduce stablecoin-based tokenization by 2027. The regulator-backed system aims to link the country's securities market to a stablecoin payment system, facilitating clearer crypto regulation and accelerating adoption.
The plan involves tokenizing stocks, bonds, and investment funds on blockchain, with the earliest phase set to begin in February 2027 pending an amendment to the Electronic Registration Act. This is part of a phased roadmap unveiled by the Financial Services Commission on September 4.
Regulators want a stablecoin payment system built by the time the rollout reaches its final stage. The move signals potential DeFi/CEX-DEX integration and could have significant implications for the crypto market in South Korea.
