Korean Stock-Linked Perpetual Futures Surpass KRW 307 Trillion in Trading Volume
Korean stock-linked perpetual futures have reached KRW 307 trillion in trading volume within months. This rapid growth highlights the expansion of crypto exchanges into traditional assets through perpetual futures.
Perpetual futures allow investors to gain exposure to price movements without owning the underlying asset, and their structure enables exchanges to launch products linked to stocks and commodities with relative ease.
Korea is at the center of this shift, with offshore crypto exchanges actively trading perpetual futures linked to major Korean stocks such as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix. These products trade at night and on weekends, offering high leverage to both Korean and global investors.
The market for perpetual futures linked to Korean stocks has grown rapidly, with cumulative trading volume reaching KRW 307 trillion from February through August 2026. In August alone, trading volume reached KRW 166 trillion, nearly four times the KRW 42 trillion traded on Korea's five largest crypto exchanges over the same period.
The growth of perpetual futures has also led to a shift in market participants and capital usage. Professional traders and investors managing large pools of capital are increasingly participating in these markets, while tokenized U.S. Treasuries serve as collateral for trading.
