Korean Traders Flood Back into Crypto Markets as Bitcoin Rally Takes Hold
South Korea's crypto market has seen a significant surge in trading activity following Bitcoin's latest rally. According to CoinGecko exchange data, Upbit's 24-hour trading volume rose 273% to approximately $1.84 billion on August 21.
This marked the exchange's strongest daily volume since mid-March 2026, with XRP being one of the largest traded assets at around $418.9 million in volume.
The sharp increase in trading activity is not surprising given South Korea's history of responding quickly to Bitcoin rallies. When sentiment improves and retail appetite increases, local participation on exchanges like Upbit and Bithumb can rise rapidly.
However, it's essential to note that exchange volume can be noisy and may reflect short-term momentum, arbitrage, leverage, or other factors rather than steady long-term demand.
