KOSPI Circuit-Breaker Sparks AI Chip Concerns

The South Korean KOSPI index experienced its eighth circuit-breaker activation of 2026 on July 28, after plummeting over 8% in a single day. This rare event, which triggered a 20-minute trading halt, coincided with a sharp decline in SK Hynix's stock price. The US-listed ADR of the top memory-chip manufacturer dropped below $140 to $139.45, down nearly 12% in 24 hours.

SK Hynix is crucial for Nvidia's latest AI chips, and its weakness raises concerns about the entire AI supply chain, including decentralized projects that rely on off-chain compute. Filecoin's price outlook, which hinges on AI storage demand, is now being tested by shifting sentiment in the chip sector.

Ai-themed altcoins have previously moved in sympathy with major AI hardware names, and the physical supply chain's cracks can erode the promise of decentralized AI infrastructure. Projects like UXLINK and Origins Network, built around decentralized computing infrastructure, depend on the perception of abundant, cheap AI compute.
