Kospi Rebounds Strongly as Bitcoin Remains Steady Amid Security Breach
The cryptocurrency market saw a divergent July close, with the Kospi delivering a strong rebound while Bitcoin remained remarkably steady. The Kospi index, which tracks South Korean equities, ended the month with a significant gain after recovering from its recent correction. In contrast, Bitcoin hovered around $64,300, showing little reaction to major headlines or market swings.
A major security incident involving Coldcard hardware wallets did not seem to impact Bitcoin's price. An attacker exploited a flaw in firmware version 4.0.1, draining over 594 BTC from approximately 500 single-signature wallets in under 30 minutes. Wallet maker Coinkite confirmed the issue and stated that newer devices are not affected, as well as those protected by a BIP 39 passphrase.
Despite the scale of the breach, Bitcoin's price barely budged, remaining near $64,300 after briefly testing $65,300 during Asian trading. In contrast to larger cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and BNB, smaller speculative assets attracted most of the activity in July.
