Crypto firms Pump Fun and Kraken have removed their promotional posts for Hunter Biden's upcoming memecoin, $LAPTOP. The token was set to launch on Base on September 9. However, the release drew intense backlash from the crypto community, leading to the deletion of the posts.

Prominent crypto influencers such as Ansem and Threadguy denounced the memecoin, calling it a 'scam' that would dump 'my low cap gems'. Rasmr compared the launch to 9/11. The show Market Bubble cancelled its upcoming interview with Biden due to the backlash.

Base staff have been on damage control since the launch was announced by the Wall Street Journal, with creator Jesse Pollak saying they chose to be 'hands off' due to politics. Pollak also clarified that 30% of the memecoin's supply will go to Biden and other co-founders, while 20% will go to Biden's substack subscribers.
