Kraken Blurs Lines Between Crypto and Traditional Finance with New Stock Trading Offer
Kraken, a prominent crypto exchange, has announced that it will offer direct trading in more than 7,000 U.S.-listed stocks for customers across the European Economic Area. This move makes Kraken the only crypto-native exchange to offer both traditional equities and tokenized versions of some of the same shares.
The expansion reflects a broader shift in what crypto exchanges are becoming, with many now offering a range of financial products beyond cryptocurrencies. As Mark Greenberg, chief commercial officer of Payward, Kraken's parent company, noted, 'This launch eliminates the artificial divide between traditional and tokenized formats of the same asset.'
Kraken is not alone in this trend, with other crypto exchanges such as Coinbase and Robinhood also offering stock trading. However, Kraken's move puts it in direct competition with traditional firms such as Interactive Brokers and eToro.
