Kraken Boosts Capacity, Cuts Errors by 99% Amid Record Trading Activity
Kraken, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has significantly improved its platform's stability and capacity over the past year. In July 2025, the exchange experienced one of its largest volume spikes ever, with about 11% of requests to the platform failing at the worst moments. However, through rigorous testing and load management, Kraken has reduced its error rate from around 11% to a mere 0.111%, while handling more than ten times the load.
The exchange's team set a high standard for load testing: the platform must survive at least twice the heaviest load it has ever handled in production, on demand, every time they test for it. To achieve this, Kraken built full-scale load tests, known as 'war games,' which simulate a manufactured flood of trading activity at production systems.
These war games have proven to be effective, with the platform sustaining over 230,000 successful requests per second in production across five separate full-scale tests. Moreover, during one of crypto's sharpest selloffs in February 2026, every major service continued to run without incidents, despite record-breaking trading activity and load.
The team at Kraken is committed to consistently pushing the bar higher. Each time real client activity sets a new record on the platform, that record becomes the load they test against next, ensuring the exchange remains prepared for even the most intense market moments.
