Kraken Exchange Hit by 'Dust Attack' from Sanctioned Competitor HTX
A recent dust attack on Kraken, a cryptocurrency exchange, has raised concerns about the security of compliance systems in the industry. According to Bloomberg, small amounts of cryptocurrency were transferred from wallets associated with HTX, a competitor that has been sanctioned by authorities.
The transfers, which totaled nearly 12,000 between August 17 and 24, were worth only a few cents or dollars each. Kraken referred to these as 'dust attacks,' suggesting that their purpose may be to trigger compliance reviews on the platform.
Kraken stated that it has restored access to affected customers' accounts and is cooperating with authorities to limit the impact of the attack. HTX denied initiating the transfers, citing possible misidentification or malicious activities by third parties as potential explanations.
