Kraken Parent Company Payward Posts Strong Q2 Revenue Amidst Trading Volume Decline
Payward, the parent company of crypto exchange Kraken, posted $508 million in second-quarter revenue. This represents a 17% increase year-over-year.
The more significant metric for Payward's long-term prospects is the 42% rise in funded accounts to 6.6 million. Despite a 13% decline in total transaction volume, this suggests that the company is attracting new users even during what is typically considered a slow season for crypto markets.
The divergence between revenue growth and falling trading volumes can be attributed to Payward's diversification efforts. The company has been expanding beyond spot trading into futures, asset-based services, and other financial products. Its acquisition of NinjaTrader, a futures trading platform, is one of the more visible bets in this direction.
The 42% increase in funded accounts also serves the IPO narrative well. Growing your user base by nearly half in a quarter when trading volumes are declining suggests organic demand for the platform itself, not just speculative market conditions.
