Kraken Sees Surge in European Clients as MEXC Exits Dutch Market
The crypto market is experiencing a significant shift in Europe as Kraken and MEXC partner to migrate Netherlands-based spot and derivatives clients. MEXC is scaling back its presence in the region, referring its customers to Kraken, which has established itself as a robust and well-regulated platform in Europe.
Kraken's regulatory credentials are a key factor in this partnership, with the company holding MiCA authorization through the Central Bank of Ireland since June 2025, alongside MiFID authorization from CySEC for derivatives and an E-money authorization from the Central Bank of Ireland. This combination gives Kraken a unique position as one of the few platforms in Europe to hold both MiCA and MiFID authorizations.
The partnership will provide users with access to a single platform offering over 600 crypto assets, tokenized equities, and perpetual futures, along with EUR fiat rails and quarterly independently verified Proof of Reserves. Kraken's xStocks, for example, are issued by Backed Assets (JE) Limited and offered through Payward Digital Solutions Ltd., a Bermuda-licensed digital asset business.
MEXC has committed to providing clear and orderly transition-related support throughout the client migration process to help minimize disruption for affected users. Kraken's Chief Compliance Officer, Robert MacDonald, emphasized that MEXC's priority is 'to ensure that affected users are supported through a clear and orderly process'.
