Kraken's IPO Saga Continues: Delayed Again Until 2027
Kraken's initial public offering (IPO) has been delayed once again, pushing its listing date to at least April 2027. The exchange had previously been expected to go public in 2022, but it has missed multiple targets since then.
In April 2021, Kraken CEO Jesse Powell told CNBC that the company was looking at going public 'sometime next year', but by June 2021, he reconsidered a direct listing after Coinbase's debut. The following year, Powell delayed the IPO slightly to the second half of 2022, but it never materialized.
The delays continued in subsequent years, with Bloomberg reporting in June 2024 that Kraken was raising 'final' pre-IPO financing for an IPO that never happened. In March 2025, Payward, the parent company of Kraken, announced it would reschedule its IPO for January-March 2026.
The IPO saga continued into 2026, with CoinDesk reporting in April that Payward had put the IPO on hold and was unlikely to proceed. However, Co-CEO Arjun Sethi later confirmed formal IPO filings, but did not provide an updated listing date. At the Consensus conference on May 5, Sethi stated that Kraken was 'about 80% ready' for IPO.
But just two weeks later, Bloomberg reported that the IPO would be pushed back to 2027. On Wednesday, CoinDesk further delayed the IPO to the second quarter of 2027.
