Kraken's kHYPE Token Expands Hyperliquid Utility as Whale Locks Up $159M in HYPE
Kraken has expanded its Hyperliquid utility by creating a new token called kHYPE. This token is directly linked to the $HYPE asset and can be used as collateral in decentralized financial transactions on the platform Ink.
Each kHYPE token has a value equivalent to one $HYPE token, which is stored in segregated accounts to prevent uncollateralized token issuance. Additionally, users can verify that each mint of kHYPE remains fully collateralized through publicly verifiable reserve reporting.
This development encourages users to move their assets back and forth between Kraken and Ink, expanding the liquidity existing outside the central marketplace. However, once redeemed, kHYPE cannot be used for generating additional staking rewards on Kraken.
An investor, identified as 0x8e48, has shown significant confidence in Hyperliquid by locking up $159 million worth of $HYPE tokens over an 8-month period. This whale has purchased an additional 116,427 $HYPE tokens for approximately $9.91 million before transferring all funds to staking.
