KuCoin Threatens Client Who Lost $250,000 in Hack
A client who was hacked and lost $250,000 to thieves has been threatened by KuCoin, a cryptocurrency exchange, over his attempts to recover his stolen assets. According to ZachXBT, an anonymous blockchain researcher, the exchange warned the client that publishing about the incident on social media could be considered false or defamatory statements.
The theft occurred on August 18, 2025, when the client's assets were withdrawn using Atomic Stealer malware. The stolen funds were then laundered through KuCoin addresses, with attackers purchasing personal data and using mule accounts to carry out the transactions.
ZachXBT has previously reported on risks associated with KuCoin, including a fake Ledger Live mobile app for iPhone that resulted in over 50 people losing $9.5 million. The researcher claims that unknown individuals withdrew funds on various networks and routed them through at least 150 KuCoin addresses.
