Kuwait Sees Opportunity in Bitcoin-Fueled Tourism Boost
Kuwait's tourism industry is struggling to keep pace with its neighbors in the Middle East. The country lacks a major tourist attraction or project that can draw large numbers of international visitors and encourage them to spend more money.
The government's opposition to gambling has been identified as a significant obstacle, despite many experts believing that the country is missing an opportunity by not exploring the largely untapped sector.
Kuwait's Central Bank has strict restrictions on virtual assets such as Bitcoin, making it difficult for the government to capitalize on this trend. However, online casinos operating in Kuwait under overseas licenses do facilitate cryptocurrency payments, generating tax revenues and boosting other sectors.
The country is determined to diversify its revenue stream through Vision 2035, but so far, its neighbors have significantly increased their investment in tourism and are offering visitors more than Kuwait by capitalizing on travel trends.
